Business Fair

The Leventhorpe School hosted a lunch for local business representatives on 12th June 2007. The purpose of the event was to raise awareness of the ways local schools and businesses could develop partnership activities. Attendees found the event very interesting and follow up work will take place to develop projects with local schools.

Wherever you work and whatever the size of your company, there may be ways in which you could become involved with your local schools, as the following examples show:

• Organisations can bring employees into schools to work with pupils. For example, International Banking Organisation HSBC has brought groups of graduate trainees into one local school, finding the experience extremely useful for developing leadership and communication skills. This could be repeated on a smaller scale.
• Business mentoring schemes, another very useful tool in staff development.
• Presentations to or seminars with groups of pupils, again developing communication skills.
• Many local businesses offer valuable work experience placements to pupils.

All of the above have added benefit of raising the profile of your company!

While schools are particularly well placed to work with other organisations on projects relating to these areas, we are all keen to develop and promote any possible links with local businesses.
